Jennifer O’Flanagan

Registered massage Therapist

My name is Jennifer and I was born in the thriving metropolis of Toronto but
was raised in the
(then small) village of Cookstown, Ontario. I was active
throughout my childhood and adolescent years, achieving my black belt in
Goju-Ryu Karate when I was 19 and playing on 2 Rugby teams throughout my
high school years. I strive to get out and explore when I can as I find I am most at
home when immersed in nature.

It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that I decided it was time to make a
change and chose to shift my career from Administration to one that was more
focused on healing others and myself. Throughout my 2 years of schooling, I saw
firsthand how powerful therapeutic physical touch can be for the mind, body,
and soul.

In December of 2022, I graduated with Honors from the Advanced Massage
Therapy Program offered at Georgian College.

I knew I had made the right choice and now as an RMT, I love that I have the
opportunity to assist and educate my patients as well as continuously learn new
methods and modalities to better treat those I see. So far, I have completed
additional training in Cupping, Gua Sha, Hot Stone and, Ayurvedic Head
Massage.

My goal as an RMT is to provide an elevated, educational, and enjoyable
experience
where my clients feel safe and heard. I wish to use the full extent of
the knowledge provided to me to treat all who choose to trust me with their
health journey.

About the RMT

“The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.”

Decreased anxiety and depression

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a gentle, yet effective massage technique that is perfect for those who prefer a treatment without the intensity of deep tissue massage. This massage technique works by manipulating the body's soft tissues to promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve blood flow. These benefits can lead to the regulation and enhancement of various bodily functions. Whether you're new to massages or just prefer a gentler touch, Swedish Massage is the perfect choice for optimal relaxation.

Trigger Point Therapy

Focuses on specific areas of the body to target trigger points within skeletal muscles.

Generally, as there is some discomfort associated with Trigger Point Release, this type of treatment is contained to a smaller area of the body and is recommended to be booked as a 30 or 45-minute treatment Before the treatment begins a discussion will be had to talk about what to expect with Trigger Point Release Therapy.

Indie Head Massage

Encompassing the head, face, neck, and shoulders that is performed at a very slow pace to increase relaxation and to allow you to fully let go of tension. A great option for those who suffer from chronic headaches.

NOTE: This massage involves the use of fractionated coconut oil applied directly to your hair and scalp. Shower facilities are not available at the clinic, please plan accordingly!

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue

Additional Modalities:

Cupping:

Special cups are placed on the skin and adhered with light to moderate suction. Tissue beneath the cup is drawn up causing an increase in blood flow. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws merabolic waste away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.. Usually, circular bruise type marks are left after the cups are removed and can remain for up to 3 weeks depending on the level of metabolic waste drawn out.

Gua Sha:

Gua sha is the practice of using a tool with a thin, dull edge to apply pressure and scrape the skin to relieve pain and tension by releasing fascial adhesions. This action causes light bruising, which often appears as purple or red spots known as petechiae
